Clarity on Obama's Investigation of CIA
(Panetta Must Go)

I traffic on several discussion boards throughout the week but most commonly in the daily threads sponsored by my (news)paper, the Boston Globe (Boston.com).

This week, every column or article that addressed President Obama's investigation of the CIA was dominated by truly unhinged and hate-filled comments by the liberal extremists. These delusional contributors continued to direct hate at President Bush, Vice President Cheney and a handful of then-government attorneys who wrote the position papers in support of enhanced interrogation techniques; it's not necessary to mention the attorneys' names here. The delusional contributors actually think Bush, Cheney and the attorneys are in jeopardy.

For clarity, President Obama is not investigating Bush, Cheney, the attorneys nor the legality of the enhanced interrogation techniques. Let me repeat that for the benefit of any delusional liberal extremists who happen upon this site: President Obama is not investigating Bush, Cheney, the attorneys nor the legality of the enhnaced interrogation techniques.

President Obama is investigating whether a handful of specific CIA officers EXCEEDED the limits of authorized techniques. Let me repeat that for the benefit of any delusional liberal extremists who happen upon this site: President Obama is investigating whether a handful of specific CIA officers EXCEEDED the limits of authorized techniques.

To wit, President Bush is no more responsible for a CIA officer who went too far than President Obama is responsible for an Army Private who exceeds the rules of engagement in Pakistan. Let me repeat . . . .

Here is what I concede I do not know: I do not know why Obama is re-opening the investigation into these specific CIA officers. These officers were investigated by career attorneys at Justice and cleared of any wrong-doing. President Obama knows the most he'll ever get in any trumped-up prosecution is just the heads of these CIA officers. So, I do not know why he is doing it. In two or three years time, Republicans will be noting the tremendous expense of the President's investigation and the completely demoralized CIA. Obama knows this . . . that's the thing that does bother me just a little, Obama knows this and he's doing it any way. If anyone can let me know why, I'd appreciate the education.

Months ago I called for the resignation or firing of CIA Director Leon Panetta. Time and again the President has left this man, who he just had to have at CIA, twisting in the wind and without any Presidential support. The pattern was repeated again this week when Panetta argued against the re-investigation and lost. Either the Nation's top spy has the confidence of the President, whose primary responsibility is the Nation's security, or he does not. If he does not, I repeat my May 25, 2009 call that the President fire Panetta or that Panetta resign.

Born in the U.S.A.

Pro-Obama activist and aged rock and roller Bruce Springsteen no longer wraps his concerts around incoherent anti-war rants.

Mr. Springsteen performed at least two concerts just down the street from me this past weekend and no mention of the wars President Obama is currently presiding over.

Four more US troops were killed in Afghanistan today.

Hmmmm.

Bush Was Apparently Right; Liberals Attack Anyway

Late last week the publishers of former Department of Homeland Security Tom Ridge's soon-to-be-released book, "The Test of Our Times", shared the most damning anti-Bush material from the book so that the liberal extremists could have another hate-Bush moment. Specifically, Secretary Ridge thought that Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and US Attorney General John Ashcroft were advising raising the color-coded threat level in advance of the 2004 elections for political reasons rather than because of a recently released videotape of Osama bin Laden threatening America. Naturally, the liberal extremists who always see exactly what they want to see regardless of the facts, including my (news)paper the Boston Globe, spun the material as politics did play a role in moving the threat level.

The letter:

Editor,

I was going to write a letter reminding your readers that liberals and Democrats shamelessly demagogued the August 6 PDB, that the group which included Rumsfeld and Ashcroft did not ultimately recommend to Bush raising the threat level following a threatening video from bin Laden just prior to the 2004 election, that Ridge does not claim Rumsfeld and Ashcroft ever mentioned a political motive to raise the threat level but only the threatening video, and that Bush, apparently, making the right decision is the most sexy pre-book-release tidbit the publisher could release prior to Ridge’s “The Test of Our Times” hitting the bookstores but then I realized I’d rather mock the Bush-obsessed Editorial Board by reminding the Board and your readers that Bush isn’t President anymore, Illegal-War-Continuer-Afghan-War-Escalator-and-Guantanamo-Bay-Jailer Obama is President (Orange alert: politicizing national security, editorial, August 23). (End of letter.)

Obama Continues to Warm to Global Thugs

I found these excerpts from a Washington Post piece by Anne E. Kornblut and Mary Beth Sheridan that appeared in my (news)paper, the Boston Globe:

"(Egyptian President Hosni) Mubarak and Obama’s meeting, their third in three months, marked a significant departure from the previous administration - when Mubarak and President Bush parted ways over human rights and US policy in the Middle East . . .

In the Bush era, relations were strained over the US push for democratic reforms in Egypt. Human-rights groups say that country’s authoritarian government detains people arbitrarily and puts them on trial in security courts that do not meet international standards for fairness.

The government also jails people for peacefully expressing opinions, the groups said."

In this report, I do not question nor doubt the reporting of liberal journalists from yet another liberally-extreme (news)paper.

Selective Monolithism and Cheney Derangement Syndrome

Y.E. Yang won the 91st PGA Championship yesterday. Mr. Yang is South Korean; he is the first "Asian-born" player to win a major golf championship. I do not know if my (news)paper, the Boston Globe, thinks Chinese-Americans, Japanese-Americans and North Korean-Americans, to list just a few other types of Asian-Americans, are as thrilled with Mr. Yang's victory as South Korean-Americans are. The letter I sent to the Boston Globe on an eerily related matter the day before:

Editor,

I appreciated and understood the need for the liberal Boston Globe to concoct a front-page story noting many American Jews support President Obama despite the President's open hostility to the current Israeli government (Many-voiced Jewish community, August 14, A1).

It is no surprise that the liberal Boston Globe could not do a similar story on the varied opinions within the American Latino community during the Sotomayor hearings and impending Senate confirmation vote. That is, I also appreciated and understood why it was in the Globe's self-interest to promote the monolithic and shallow thinking, as insulting as the promotion was, of the Latino community.

I, of course, know that many American Latinos cared less about Sotomayor's ethnicity and cared more about national security, right to life, the Second Amendment and lower taxes, to just name a few issues of more importance to the Latino community. (End of letter.)

On Saturday, three days after the all-male Editorial Board published yet another lead political cartoon lampooning Gov. Sarah Palin, it published an editorial noting (and celebrating) the policy differerences between President Bush and Vice President Cheney (no, I'm not kidding). The letter:

Editor,

Good grief, the editorial board of the Boston Globe is now going to spin Vice President Cheney's subservience to President Bush as a reason for a divide in the Republican Party after years of delusional editorials and idiotic letters claiming Bush was Cheney's puppet (Cheney: Even George W. failed him, editorial, A15)?

Yet another case of the liberal extremists twisting and spinning selected quotes and pieces of history to fit their desired, lunatic narrative. (End of letter.)

The Morning After . . .

America to President Obama: And why, why am I wearing your class ring?

(Waking Up in Vegas; written by Andreas Carlsson; Desmond Child; Katy Perry; performed by Katy Perry)

This lyric so very graphically, yet comically, says it all.

Obama's Enemies List

As most everyone knows by now, President Obama has asked his legions of internet followers to alert him if they see anything on the internet that would interfer with his plans to nationalize health care.

Specifically, he's asking that if anyone receives a "fishy" email or something on the Web that contests his nationalization plans that an email should be sent to the White House at flag@whitehouse.gov. Chilling. Absolutely chilling.

President Obama claims he's just interested in combating any "intentionally misleading" information.

Well, if the President is interested in an honest debate of his nationalization plans then I think he should be concerned about any misleading information on either side of the debate.

Accordingly, I ran the risk of landing on the President's enemies list by emailing him about an editorial that appeared in my (news)paper, the Boston Globe, on Saturday, August 8.

The title of the lead editorial says it all: "When the truth won't stop health reform, try lies" (Boston Globe, August 8, A10).

Democrat Jefferson Convicted

My (news)paper buried this story from the Washington Post on page A15:

"WASHINGTON - Former US representative William Jefferson was convicted of corruption charges yesterday in a case that featured $90,000 stuffed into his freezer and a legal battle over the raid of his Washington, D.C., office that reached the highest levels of the US government.

Federal jurors in Alexandria, Va., found the Louisiana Democrat guilty of using his congressional office and staff to enrich himself and his family, offering and accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to support business ventures in seven African nations. Jefferson was convicted on 11 of 16 counts, including bribery, racketeering, and money laundering."

Shelby Steele on Henry Louis Gates

Though we're in the dog days of summer, today's post is not a cop out for a short, simple, post.

I've read quite a bit about black historian (good grief, he's no expert on race relations as the liberal extremists keep describing him) Henry Louis Gates' recent arrest. I think today's Wall Street Journal column by Shelby Steele, a research fellow at Stanford University and prolific writer on race relations, is one of the best.
