Your Mother Wears Army Boots!

I'm positive I was six-years old when I walked away, laughing, at the first person that told me my mother wore army boots. But, then, I was a mature six.

Also, FIFA has announced an investigation into the whole head-butting incident which may end in the head-butter being relieved of his trophy; the Boston Globe and the Wall Street Journal know this so there is very little chance my insightful letters will be published. The first hearing date is July 20, so no developments on this story for a few days.

Again, there is no evidence that FIFA reads ZACKlyRight and that FIFA opened its investigation after a visit here.

Also, I believe -- but am not sure -- that the much of the voting for the award was done before the head butting incident, and up until that time, Zidane was far and away the deserved winner of the award. As I understand it, the voting ended at midnight on the day of the final (or something like that), which ended in late evening German time. So, it very well may not be the case that even the journalists voted for him knowing of the insane and idiotic head butting incident.

And, I don't think it's fair to raise your laughing reaction as a six-year old -- I'm sure that rather than reflecting any precocious maturity, it was simply that you too thought your mom looked funny in army boots.

Touche, Conscience. I suspected I was vulneable to the Army boots / mother comebask when I wrote it.

I haven't heard of any journalists come forward to say they voted for Zidane pre-incident and who regret their vote now. I suspect many qualify so why can't they come forward?

Finally, I don't know how many goals ZZ scored in the Tourney. I don't care enough to research it. I think 7 goals were scored in regulation in all 64 matches; I think he had at least two because I saw him score two . . . on penalty kicks! And, one of the fouls was a joke and he wasn't even the guy fouled; he just took the shot. Barely scored it off the crossbar. Commenter, "Only a guy as confident as ZZ would even dream of attempting that shot (he chipped it softly instead of firing it)" If you're are pre-disposed to love the guy, I guess anything he does is great. I'm not pre-disposed to dislike the guy; I don't know if he voted for the current French government that works against the US in almost all regards. I know that I will be offended if FIFA does not strip him of the Golden Ball. Actually, he could redeem himself in my eyes if he refused it.

Conscience, yes, the blog platform could be improved if it allowed for an edit function prior to posting. I would have way fewer fat-finger errors and duh! usage errors.

No comment on the flag burning post? You stated earlier you were schooled by Prof. Tribe at Harvard Law School. Surely you have an opinion as to whether the Flag should be protected by an Amendment or not.

As for flag burning, as much as I disagree with the sentiment of the flag burners, I have to agree with you that it is protected by the First Amendment -- I think there can be little doubt that it is a form of symbolic speech that is covered by the free speech clause. I'm a bit more on the fence as to a proposed amendment specifically banning flag burning. I don't think it's necessary, and am concerned about the precedent it would set, but might be convinced to support an amendment.
