The Clipped Quote
The entire Sen. Hillary Clinton quote from last night's Democratic Presidential debate from New Hampshire, "I am a Senator from New York. I have lived with the aftermath of 9/11, and I have seen firsthand the terrible damage that can be inflicted on our country by a small band of terrorists. I believe we are safer than we were."
The Boston Globe did not include the last sentence in the quote it published today.
The letter:
Editor,
Did the Boston Globe not think it was newsworthy to report Sen. Hillary Clinton believes the Country is "safer" than it was on 9/11 (War, Clinton targets in N.H. debate, June 4, A1)?
Prior to the quote you chose not to report, Sen. Clinton reminded those watching the Democratic Presidential debate that as a Senator from New York she has "lived with the aftermath of 9/11" and has seen "the terrible damage that can be inflicted on our Country . . . ." Precisely! Because she is the Senator from New York she definitely would know if we we are more safe or not.
Your hatred for President Bush is so clouding your "news" coverage that an immensely significant opinion expressed at last night's debate was left on the cutting room floor.
"My goodness, if we print facts someone might be inclined to give President Bush credit! We can't have that!" (End of letter.)

I, too , live in a major metropolitan area and our newspaper also omitted that part of Sen. Clinton's very telling quote. Thanks for sharing it because unless you watched the debate live, you would never know she "admitted" such a thing!
Items like these never seem to get past you- good work calling them on it.
Why did an otherwise smart reporter for the Boston Globe drop the quote?
Or, did her editors drop the quote? But if this, why?
In my post I suggested that including the quote could lend credit to President Bush. But what are the other possiblities?
The Democratic Party's front-runner, by a ton (she's leading Obama and Edwards by 42 - 27 - 17 in the latest polls and she'll increase that when the post-debate numbers come out), said that "we are safer than we were." Why else would the liberal media establshment not want to let people know this? Is there a chance that the liberal media is protecting her from the moveon.org fanatics who will dominate the vote in the primaries. Is there a chance that if people knew what she said that she fall in the polls?
If so, look for one of her challengers to bring up this quote in the future.
Or, is there another reason?
Arguably, the person with the greatest chance to become our next President said we are "safer" and newspapers across the land did not think this was news. If Richardson said it I'd understand it, but Sen. Clinton said it.
not to mention the terrible damage that can be inflicted on our country by an Illinois born, Wellesley/Yale educated, socialist who never owned property until it was politically expedient (except some swamp land in Arkansas, which was financially and politically expedient of course), and never knew of a place called Chappaqua until it was politically expedient and has never held a real job so doesn't understand the poor unfortunate souls who absolutely should pay more taxes because he hasn't given up on taking over the most efficient although imperfect health care system the world has known...
