Asinine Quote of the Day, I mean, Century
In a column in today's Wall Street Journal, "War in Afghanistan Is Being Fought on Two Fronts", I found this idiotic quote from Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, commenting on the war in Afghanistan:
"It's not about how many enemy we kill; it's about how many civilians we protect."

ZR: Its Monday, July 13, 2009. I just poured a cup of coffee and opened my WSJ. The headline reads:
"CIA Had Secret Al Qaeda Plan"
My first thought was: "they damn well better have a plan..."
What alternate universe am I living in that in less than eight years after over two thousand civilians were murdered in cold blood on a crisp Fall day when nobody, with the possible exception of the CIA, could conceive who could have perpetrated such an act do I find said nobodys questioning a plan that included the capture and killing of the perpetrator of said act and CIA kept it secret?
In my universe tomorrow's headline would read:
"US Still Has Enemies. They Are Evil. They want to End Our Way of Life. They want to Kill Us All."
We are doomed...
ZR, I agree. Who did he run that quote past, prior to making it public, that thought it sounded good?
Hardball,
The whole story is ridiculous and I'm surprised the Wall Street Journal chose to run it the way they did.
The CIA had a "secret" plan? Who would ahve thought.
Also, CIA Director Panetta, who I long ago said should resign, stopped the plan to capture and kill al Qaeda operatives. Aren't we fighting al Qaeda?
Anonymous,
Just so we're clear about my position, I think the objective of US service personnel is to protect Americans and America. If there is a by-product of that activity, so be it. But, the by-product better not be the driver of the activity.
